What you’ll learn
Represent relationships using tables.
Key idea
Apply the stated rule forward for an output or undo it for an input.
A unit input change need not imply a unit output change; use the same mapping rule in forward and inverse rows.
Worked example
Enter the exact value or ordered values in the format requested below.
A distance table for d=3h contains (0,0),(1,3),(6,?). Enter the missing numeric output for h=6.
- The table uses d=3h, so each output is 3 times its input.
- At h=6, d=18; conversely 18÷3=6.
Answer: 18
Quick Check
Evaluate a worked attempt at represent relationships using tables, identify the first invalid step, and provide the correction.
A student fills d=5h: Step 1, (8,40). Step 2, (9,41), adding one to both columns. Locate the first invalid step and correct the row.
