What you’ll learn
Create drawings at different scales.
Key idea
A new drawing must scale both corresponding lengths by the same multiplier.
Uniform scaling changes both dimensions while retaining orientation and anchoring; partial one-axis scaling distorts shape.
Worked example
Enter the exact value or ordered values in the format requested below.
Original axis-parallel rectangle has bottom-left(0,0), length 2,width 6. Reproduce it at linear scale 3, keeping origin and orientation. Construct its complete four-corner set.
- Apply length multiplier 3 to both original dimensions: 2→6, 6→18.
- With bottom-left at origin and axis-parallel sides, all four corners are {(0,0),(6,0),(6,18),(0,18)}.
Answer: {(0,0),(6,0),(6,18),(0,18)}
Quick Check
Choose which candidate representation satisfies the requirements of 'Create drawings at different scales' and justify the choice.
Reproduce origin-anchored rectangle length 3,width 7 at linear scale 1/2. Compare A:{(0,0),(3/2,0),(3/2,7/2),(0,7/2)}; B:{(0,0),(3/2,0),(3/2,7),(0,7)}; C:{(0,0),(3,0),(3,7),(0,7)}. Select with evidence about both dimensions.
