What you’ll learn
Solve discount and markup problems.
Key idea
Find the percent amount using the stated base, then subtract a discount or add a markup. Multipliers can shorten the work: a 25% discount leaves 75%, so multiply by 0.75.
When changes happen one after another, the second percent usually applies to the already changed price. A 25% discount followed by a 10% markup is not the same as a 15% discount, because the two percentages use different bases. State the base at each step.
