What you’ll learn
Perform rotations on coordinates.
Key idea
Quarter turns swap coordinates with direction-specific signs; a half turn negates both coordinates.
Angle, direction and fixed center all matter; use one signed rule on every vertex.
Worked example
Enter the exact value or ordered values in the format requested below.
Read image I after turning P 90 clockwise degrees about origin. Enter its coordinate pair.
Marked coordinates: P=(-3, 3); I=(3, 3).
- Turn 90 clockwise degrees about the fixed origin follows (x,y)→(y,-x).
- Applying the same rule to all vertices gives [(3, 3), (3, 1), (5, 3)]; each squared radius and pairwise length is preserved.
Answer: (3,3)
Quick Check
Relate the graph used in 'Perform rotations on coordinates' to an equation, table, transformation, or verbal description.
Connect image graph and mapping rows [((-1, -2), (2, -1)), ((1, -2), (2, 1)), ((-1, 0), (0, -1))] to one common turn about origin.
Marked coordinates: I=(2, -1); P=(-1, -2).
