What you’ll learn
Find quadratic intercepts.
Key idea
At a vertical-axis crossing the input is zero; keep all distinct horizontal roots.
Horizontal crossings require output zero; vertical crossing requires input zero and all roots must be reported.
Worked example
Enter the exact value or ordered values in the format requested below.
Find BOTH x-intercept input values and y-intercept output for y=x²+1x-6. Enter x={...};y=number.
- Factoring gives (x+3)(x-2); zero output occurs at x=-3 or x=2.
- The vertical-axis crossing uses x=0, giving y=-6; report both roots and that output: x={-3,2};y=-6.
Answer: x={-3,2};y=-6
Quick Check
Evaluate a worked attempt at find quadratic intercepts, identify the first invalid step, and provide the correction.
For y=x²+2x-8, Step 1 solves y=0 to get x=-4,2. Step 2 evaluates at x=1 and reports y=-5 as the vertical intercept. Find first invalid step and correct all intercepts.
