What you’ll learn
Graph ratio relationships.
Key idea
An ordered pair reports the horizontal coordinate before the vertical coordinate.
Keep x,y coordinate order; an additive rule does not generally preserve the origin or all plotted points.
Worked example
Enter the exact value or ordered values in the format requested below.
This labeled graph has x=batches and y=cups. Read the plotted coordinate at x=6; enter (x,y).
Marked coordinates: ●=(6, 18); ●=(5, 15); ●=(4, 12); ●=(3, 9); ●=(2, 6); ●=(1, 3); ●=(0, 0).
- Follow the graph column x=6 to its plotted dot.
- The row is y=18, giving (6,18) in x,y order.
Answer: (6,18)
Quick Check
Construct or select a graph that correctly represents the data or relationship in 'Graph ratio relationships'.
A table lists (batches, cups) pairs {(0,0),(1,5),(2,10),(3,15),(4,20),(5,25),(6,30),(7,35),(8,40),(9,45)}. Choose the complete coordinate set to plot with x=batches and y=cups.
