What you’ll learn
Represent equivalent ratios in tables.
Key idea
Equivalent ratios multiply both quantities by the same factor.
A constant increment in one coordinate is not enough; both coordinates must share the same scale factor.
Worked example
Enter the exact value or ordered values in the format requested below.
A ratio table contains (x,y) pairs (2,4) and (4,8). What y-value belongs with x=16?
- The x-value scales from 2 to 16 by a factor of 8.
- Use the same factor for y: 4×8=32.
Answer: 32
Quick Check
Evaluate a worked attempt at represent equivalent ratios in tables, identify the first invalid step, and provide the correction.
A student writes: Step 1, (2,7) and (4,14) have constant ratio y/x=7/2. Step 2, when x=6, y=14. Identify the first invalid step and correct the row.
