What you’ll learn
Read and create histograms.
Key idea
A shared boundary belongs only to the bin beginning there, never both adjacent bins.
Each right endpoint is excluded and becomes the next bin's left endpoint; every observation must be counted once without boundary overlap.
Worked example
Enter the exact value or ordered values in the format requested below.
Create histogram bar heights for (0, 1, 3, 3, 6, 7, 6, 7) using nonoverlapping equal-width bins [0,3), [3,6), [6,9). Enter three numeric counts in bin order.
- Every bin includes its left endpoint and excludes its right endpoint; value 3 belongs to the second bin.
- Tallying the raw data produces bar heights 2,2,4, totaling 8 observations.
Answer: 2,2,4
Quick Check
Choose which candidate representation satisfies the requirements of 'Read and create histograms' and justify the choice.
Data are (0, 1, 0, 1, 3, 3, 3, 6); bins [0,3), [3,6), [6,9). Select candidate histogram heights and a boundary justification meeting all constraints.
