What you’ll learn

Create two-way frequency tables.

Key idea

Subtract each row's yes count from that row's total; both response categories must exhaust the group.

Preserve common column order, subtract within each row and check both margins.

Worked example

Enter the exact value or ordered values in the format requested below.

Surveyed A total 10, yes 2; B total 20, yes 6. Rows A,B; columns yes,no. Construct the four interior cells in exact order A yes,A no;B yes,B no, using commas and a semicolon.

  1. A no=10-2=8; B no=20-6=14.
  2. Ordered cells 2,8;6,14 preserve row totals 10,20 and yes column total 8; columns stay yes,no in both rows.

Answer: 2,8;6,14
